Climate Action Network Canada (CAN Canada) is a national coalition of environmental, social justice, labour, youth, faith-based, and Indigenous organizations working together to advance ambitious and equitable climate action across Canada.
Is Climate Action Network Canada a government organization?
No. CANC is an independent civil society coalition. We work to influence public policy but are not affiliated with or controlled by any government body.
What does CANC do?
We coordinate national climate advocacy, develop policy recommendations, engage with decision-makers, support public campaigns, and amplify the voices of communities most impacted by climate change.
Who are your members?
Our members include environmental NGOs, Indigenous organizations, labour unions, youth groups, health advocates, faith communities, and other civil society organizations committed to climate justice.
What is a “just transition”?
A just transition ensures workers and communities dependent on fossil fuels are supported through training, income protections, and investment in sustainable industries during the shift to a clean economy.
How does CANC work with Indigenous communities?
We support Indigenous leadership, uphold the principle of free, prior, and informed consent, and advocate for climate policies that respect Indigenous rights and sovereignty.

The Climate Challenge

Climate change is the defining challenge of our generation. Rising temperatures, extreme weather, biodiversity loss, and economic disruption threaten communities across Canada and globally.
What is Canada’s role in global climate action?
As a high-income country with significant historical emissions, Canada has a responsibility to reduce domestic emissions rapidly and provide financial support to countries most vulnerable to climate impacts.
Does CANC take positions on fossil fuel projects?
Yes. We oppose new fossil fuel expansion and advocate for a managed, equitable phase-out aligned with science-based climate targets.
How can organizations become members?
Organizations aligned with our mission can apply for membership. Members collaborate on campaigns, policy development, and strategic advocacy initiatives.
Can individuals join CANC directly?
CANC is a coalition of organizations rather than individual members. Individuals can support our work by engaging with member organizations and participating in campaigns.
